16th December: History

In a routine and mundane life on earth, a particular date doesn't have a significant importance until and unless it has some events or incidents associated with it. In one date different incidents occur in different part of the world. Some incident are routine life incidents such as birth, death, graduation or marriage which involves a particular person or a group of person's memory. But some incidents can change the course of history and can affect millions of people.

There are many such dates where over the years the world witnessed many remarkable events. Such a date is 16th December.

16th December 1773: Boston Tea Party
Boston Tea party was a protest against the Tea act of the British government. The British colonies demanded "No taxation without representation" and threw boxes of tea in to the Boston harbour. Boston tea party was one of the epic defiance of the British rule and over the years the Boston Tea Party has been one of the most significant incident in American Revolution.

16th December 1944: Battle of Bulge
The deadliest battle of World War 2 is the battle of bulge where German troops attacked the allies in eastern Belgium and North Eastern France. The bloodiest battle lasted till 25th Jan 1945 and USA lost 19276 armed personnel during the battle of bulge.  Despite the heavy casualties, allied forces won the battle. 

16th December 1971: Birth of Bangladesh as a Nation
Due to relentless atrocities of the Pakistani armies in eastern Pakistan, the people of eastern Pakistan fled to India for their safety. India was unable to handle the heavy influx of refugees from eastern Pakistan. The then prime minister Indira Gandhi ordered Indian army to launch military offensive to end the genocide. General Sam Manekshaw led the Indian army to war in eastern Pakistan and the eastern command of Pakistan army along with 93000 Pakistani troops surrender to India by signing the instrument of surrender on 16th December 1971.

16th December 2014: Peshawar School Massacre
Six gunmen with automatic assault rifle and explosive belts entered the army public school in peshawar and opened fired on innocent kids and unarmed school staff. 132 school kids aged between 8 to 18 were killed and a total of 149 deaths were reported from army public school. Pakistan elite SSG launched a counter strike almost immediately and killed all the six attackers and rescued 960 people. This incident is the most shocking and horrific act of terror against the innocent kids. Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) took responsibility of the ghastly act and responded that the school massacre was the answer of operation Zarb-e-Azb by Pakistani army conducted in north waziristan.
